CMA Decatur Plant enjoys giving back to our community by working with the nation’s largest charity United Way Worldwide (United Way) of Morgan County, Alabama.

One activity the United Way sponsors is a “Day of Caring.” This activity is a way for organizations to help the partner agencies with tangible and material needs—anything from supplies to cleaning or repairing the buildings. This year the CMA Decatur team was not able to participate in an in-person activity due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, the team wanted to make sure and contribute to this activity especially in today’s environment when even more people are experiencing difficulties in their personal and professional lives.

On September 15, 2020, CMA Decatur team delivered to the United Way office 88 items valued at approximately 1,300 dollars that was personally provided by 16 CMA Decatur leadership team members (consisted of a plant manager and primarily general and section managers). We were able to sponsor three agencies and provide them with supplies they requested―craft kits to Mosaic Mentoring of North Alabama, an agency that provides mentoring for children between five and 15 years old; and toys, coloring books, crayons and play doh to the Morgan County Child Advocacy Center that supports children through trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy. Our team’s largest contribution went to Hope Place, a place that provides assistance for people that have been victims of domestic and sexual violence. The situation was very clear from their requests for backpacks, baby items and even ladies’ underwear. To realize that these individuals often leave their home with nothing and are forced to start over was very eye opening.

We hope to continue our support of the “Day of Caring” in 2021 with an in person activity and are thankful to the Decatur leadership team for their monetary contributions this year to help their neighbors.
