The third KTSF Awards Ceremony to present the Science and Technology Awards and the Science and Technology Research Fund was held at the Korea Toray R&D Center in Seoul, Republic of Korea on October 22, 2020. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the number of participants was limited to the minimum at about 50 people, including the award winners, their families, the foundation officials, and presidents of Toray Group companies in the Republic of Korea.

In the Science and Technology Awards, Mr. Nam Wonwoo, Endowed Chair Professor of Ewha Women’s University, won the award for Basic Research, while Mr. Cho Kilwon, Professor of Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH), was chosen for Applied Research, and were presented the prize money and plaques.

Four teams―respectively led by Ms. Cho Eunjin, Professor of Chung-Ang University, Mr. Yi Gira, Professor of Sungkyunkwan University, Mr. Kim Shinhyun, Professor of KAIST (Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology), and Mr. Oh Joonhak, Professor of Seoul National University―were chosen for the Science and Technology Research Fund. The four teams will be provided with research funds for the next three years.

Toray Industries, Inc. President Akihiro Nikkaku, who is KTSF Honorary Chairman, delivered a congratulatory speech in a video message from Japan. He also said in his address that he expects the activities of KTSF will promote science and technology and human resource development in Republic of Korea and contribute to the friendship between the Republic of Korea and Japan.
