P.T. Toray Industries Indonesia (TIN)
On March 24, 2022, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Alumni Association of Indonesia (JAAI) organized its general assembly and the fifth international symposium online and TIN Associate Director Abdurakhman Hasanudin attended the event as an invited speaker.
A total of 100 people, primarily members of JAAI from Indonesia and several participants from Japan and Thailand, participated in the symposium. In the opening ceremony, Dr. Laksana Tri Handoko, chairman of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Mr. Hisamichi Yamazaki, first secretary of science and technology affairs, embassy of Japan in Indonesia, and Mr. Hisashi Kato, advisor of International Program Department, JSPS, delivered opening remarks. Subsequently, Indonesian researchers discussed strategies for contributing to society through research activities under the theme of “For Science to science for community.”
Hasanudin introduced the history, business fields, main products, and research structure of Toray Industries, Inc. and explained how a company develops products from research and contributes to society through business operations. He also introduced the activities of Indonesia Toray Science Foundation (ITSF) as Toray’s social contribution efforts and called on the symposium participants to apply for awards and grants which the ITSF provides.
BRIN’s Professor Nurul Taufiqurrahman, another invited lecturer, introduced how a business was launched based on research results of BRIN.
Following the lectures by the two invited lecturers, the participants engaged in active discussions on creating and commercializing products based on research results.
