Toray Industries, Inc.

Tokyo, Japan, July 12, 2022 – Toray Industries, Inc., today announced the outcome of a special audit implemented by the Japan Quality Assurance Organization (JQA), which is a registered certification body of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The audit was conducted in connection with the inappropriate actions relating to UL LLC (hereinafter, “UL”) certification which Toray disclosed on January 31, 2022. Upon conclusion of the audit, Toray Industries received notification from JQA that its ISO9001:20151 certification is to be withdrawn for the processes relating to the design, development and manufacture of the nylon resin, PBT resin, PPS resin, liquid crystal polyester resin, and carbon fiber reinforced resin (Torayca resin) that are manufactured at its Nagoya Plant, and the processes relating to the design, development and manufacture of the ABS resin, PLA resin and carbon fiber reinforced resin pellets that are manufactured at its Chiba Plant. Furthermore, certification is to be suspended temporarily for all other products that are designed, developed and manufactured at the Nagoya Plant, as the same quality management system was in operation for these products.

Toray once again sincerely apologizes to the users of these materials and all the other stakeholders who have been affected by the inappropriate actions related to UL certification.

Toray takes this JQA decision with the utmost seriousness. Guided by the recommendations in the report of the expert committee which investigated the matter, which were announced previously on April 12, 2022, as well as by instructions received from UL, Toray will take definitive steps to prevent recurrence, making every effort to regain the trust of customers and the broader society. Toray will also work to reacquire certification where it has been withdrawn and to qualify for reinstatement of certification where it has been suspended.
