Toray Group Companies in the Americas

Toray Industries (America), Inc. (TAM), with the cooperation of Toray Plastics (America), Inc. (TPA), held the 2022 (13th) US Management Training at TPA’s Rhode Island Plant located in the State of Rhode Island in the United States from June 21 to 23, 2022. A total of 11 people from eight Toray Group companies in the Americas, respectively Toray Fluorofibers (America), Inc. (TFA), Toray Resin Co. (TREC), Toray Plastics (America), Inc. (TPA), Toray Composite Materials America, Inc. (CMA), Zoltek Companies, Inc. (ZOLTEK), Toray International America Inc. (TIAM) and Performance Materials Corp. (PMC) from the United States, and Toray do Brasil Ltda. (TBL) from Brazil, took part in the training.

It is a three-day training session targeting section managers and supervisors, which is held every year for the participants to (1) understand Toray-style management (safety management, corporate ethics and legal compliance, cost management, and human resource management); and (2) improve skills of human resources and organizational management. The training, which was suspended for the last two years following the global spread of COVID-19 pandemic, was held for the first time in three years given the significant improvement in the pandemic situation.
At the beginning of the training, TPA President and CEO Michael Brandmeier talked about what is expected of leaders at Toray Group, which was followed by lectures by in-house instructors and group discussions and presentations. On the third day, the participants were given a tour of the TorayfanTM polypropylene film production plant and an introduction to the new production line that was completed in April 2021. Along with experiencing operations and organizational culture different from their own companies, all participants were greatly impressed also by the large automated production facility.

Through the training, participants hailing from various fields and with different career backgrounds were able to interact and build a valuable personal network for the future.
