Toray Announces Update on UL Certification for Toray Resin and
Implementation of Measures to Prevent Recurrence of Inappropriate Actions

Tokyo, Japan, August 31, 2022 — Toray Industries, Inc., today announced that it has completed its investigation of UL certified resins that was initiated as a result of Toray’s press release on January 31, 2022. In addition to the withdrawal of 52 UL certified resins that occurred on March 31, 2022, 10 additional resins will be withdrawn, effective August 31, 2022.  
Of the resins that have been withdrawn, 28 have been re-certified under new grade designations of August 31, 2022. The re-certification of 1 resin under a new grade designation is still pending.
Toray once again sincerely apologizes to the users of these materials and various companies who have been affected by the inappropriate actions.
Toray takes this series of actions with the utmost seriousness. Guided by the recommendations in the report of the expert committee that investigated the matter, which were announced previously on April 12, 2022, as well as by instructions received from UL and other directives, Toray senior management will continue to lead the implementation of definitive measures formulated by its board of directors to prevent recurrence, making every effort to regain the trust of customers and the broader society.
An overview of this matter is as detailed below.

 
1.  Additional withdrawal of UL certification
(1) Products subject to withdrawal
• ABS resin TOYOLAC™: 10 types (See attachment for details)

(2)  Date of withdrawal of UL certification: August 31, 2022
 
(3) Manufacture of UL certified products that use any of the withdrawn materials should contact UL's Market Surveillance department at the link below for guidance:

2. In consultation with UL, Toray is working on reapplying for certification of certain products for which UL certification was previously withdrawn. At this time, more than 95% of the products for which applications have been submitted have been re-certified. See the link to special webpages in 1. above for details on the registration status of specific products.

Grade designation reviewed: 122 in total
• Subject to certification withdrawal on March 31: 52 grade designation
 Application for re-certification submitted: 19 grade designation (18 re-certified)
• Subject to certification withdrawal on August 31: 10 products
 Application for re-certification submitted: 10 products (all 10 re-certified)
• Confirmed continued certification: 54 products
• Resins withdrawn due to no requirement for UL certification: 6 products
