Toray Group Companies in Malaysia
On July 17, 2022, Toray Group companies in Malaysia, in cooperation with the Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation, an organization that supports students going to Japan to study, conducted a beach cleanup around Karpal Singh Drive, a seaside promenade in the eastern part of Penang Island.
On the day of the cleanup, 27 people from Toray Group companies in Malaysia (including family members), seven from Yoneyama Memorial Foundation, and the Consul General Hiroyuki Orikasa of the Consulate-General of Japan in Penang also participated. The amount of trash collected was as much as twenty 70-liter trash bags! Most of the trash was waste plastic such as straws, cigarette butts, and empty bottles. Participants commented, "I now understand the actual situation of the ocean plastics problem," and "I am glad I could participate in a volunteer activity that I was interested in."
Toray Group companies in Malaysia is determined to continue to contribute to the local community as a corporate citizen in Penang.
