Toray Industries (China) Co., Ltd. (TCH)

The 2022 Shanghai Marathon, sponsored by Toray Industries, Inc. and TCH, was held in Shanghai, China, on November 27, 2022.

Toray and TCH have been supporting the event as Founding Sponsor, the topmost sponsor, since restarting the cosponsoring in 2015. After the 2021 event was canceled due to COVID-19, the preparations for the 2022 marathon were carried out taking strict infection prevention measures, such as mandatory PCR tests of all participants and staff members and restriction of movement outside Shanghai, amid thorough implementation of China’s Zero-COVID Policy. As a result, the event achieved its goal of zero infections and zero accidents, making it a big success for the entire city.

TCH Chairman Toru Kutsuzawa attended the starting ceremony and the prize distribution ceremony for the men’s marathon on behalf of both companies. The 2022 event was limited to the full marathon but the number of participants doubled to 18,000 from 9,000 in the previous 2020 event. Toray’s corporate symbol was printed on the race bibs and displayed at many locations along the routes as well as at the start and finish lines.

Prior to the marathon, the Shanghai Marathon EXPO was held at the Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center of International Sourcing from November 24 to 26. Toray Group set up a booth this time also and installed a large display to air the corporate promotional video and a message board for the visitors to enjoy the event, in addition to holding a raffle with gifts. Toray’s vibrant corporate promotional video was popular with the visitors and we widely disseminated corporate information utilizing the newly created Toray mascot for the Chinese market to improve Toray’s corporate image.
