Toray Group Companies in Malaysia

On March 21, 2023, Toray Group Companies in Malaysia took part in the Penang Green School 2023 kick-off ceremony hosted by Penang Green Council (PGC), a nonprofit organization engaged in solving environmental issues in the state of Penang in Malaysia. With some 200 guests including Mr. Phee Boon Poh, a member of Penang State Executive Council, in attendance, the kick-off event was celebrated on a grand scale with a speech by Teh Hook Soon, Chief Representative for Malaysia, Toray Industries, Inc., and also a demonstration of plastic (PET) bottle recycling.

In fiscal year 2023, Toray Group Companies in Malaysia collaborate with PGC to hold Toray &+™ Recycle Competition 2023 Penang targeting primary and secondary schools in the state of Penang. The competition runs from March 21 through the end of November and is part of the activities to produce &+™, fiber made from recycled plastic bottles, which is promoted by the Toray Group, and it calls for the schools registered as Penang Green School to collect the bottles for recycling.

The raw material produced using the plastic bottles collected will be converted to recycled polyester staple fiber at Penfibre Sdn. Berhad (PFR) and spun and woven at Penfabric Sdn. Berhad (PAB) to be reborn as material for shirts and suits. The material will then be sewn into clothing and sold in Penang and also around the world. In addition to achieving such circular economy, we hope this initiative to raise the environmental awareness of primary and secondary school students in Penang.

Toray Group Companies in Malaysia will continue to contribute to local communities in order to create a brighter future for the next generation.
